Bantwal, Aug 20: “The village was filled with illiterates a few years ago. But they have achieved more than the students in cities in studies now. The village has transformed as that of the intellectuals,” said former minister B Ramanath Rai.

He was speaking in the felicitations titled ‘Nammoora Hemme’ to the toppers in SSLC and PUC examinations at Bantwal held by Rashtreeya Vidhyarthi Okkoota.

“It is our duty to identify and honour the examination toppers. Therefore, NSUI is felicitating them. The present day toppers should obtain higher education and repay the debt of their parents,” he said.

“Parents who do not educate their children are their enemies. Parents send their children to good schools regardless of the hardship they undergo. Parents and teachers try hard so that children may do well in examinations. Students should be proud of such parents and teachers,” he said.

Recipient of national award, teacher Ramesh Naik said that the number of students committing suicide for trivial reasons has increased. “Students should not give up hope during difficulties. Do not make wrong decisions and lose your lives,” he said.

Baby Kunder, Sudeep Kumar Shetty, Abbas Ali, Sudarshan Jain, Padmashekar Jain, district vice president Pavan Salian, Ankush, Anwith Kateeli, Najeeb, Mallika V Shetty, Ibrahim Nawaz, Jayanti Poojary and others were present.

NSUI Dakshina Kannada district president Nawaz Sullia gave an introductory address and welcomed. Vice president Ankush rendered a vote of thanks. Suhan Alva and Bathish Alaimajalu compered the programme.
