Mangaluru: Surathkal toll gate closure in 15 days – Gadkari assures truck owners’ association

Mangaluru, Sep 13: Sunil D’Souza, president of Dakshina Kannada Truck Owners’ association said that union minister for highways and land transport Nitin Gadkari has given assurance to close Surathkal toll gate within 15 days.

Speaking to scribes at Kulur in the city, Sunil said, “State president of our association Dr G R Shanmugappa met union minister Gadkari after the transport meet gathering on September 9 and appealed for the closure of toll gate at Surathkal. We will also participate in the protest that is scheduled by toll gate protest committee on September 13. If the government does not keep its word, we will gherao the toll gate with trucks.”

Sunil further said, “All important meeting of fixing hiring charges for trucks that take goods from Mangaluru will be held on September 13 with state president Shamugappa and others. We will implement the charges in joint meeting. If any opposition to the new charges are found, we will resort to fierce protest in coming days including strike.”
