Kuwait, Sep 24: Monthi fest, a traditional feast celebrated largely by Mangalurean Catholics represents the birthday of Our Blessed Mother Mary, coincides with festival of new harvest and is being celebrated all over the word every year.
In continuation of the tradition and grandeur Belman Welfare Association Kuwait (BELWAK) celebrated Monthi Fest on September 20 at Badur hall, Salmiya, Kuwait.
Jayona Aranha, the compere of the evening welcomed the gathering and quickly summarized the flow of religious events. A solemn procession of little children, youngsters and elders carrying trays of beautiful flowers and vegetables in honor of mother Mary to the lilting tunes of ‘Sakad Saangaataa melyaan’ and ‘Moriek Hogolsiyan’ and Mother Mary novena led by Vimala Dsouza, cultural coordinator. Followed by the refreshments and stage programmes with all the dignitaries on the stage. The guest of honour Nellu Permanur, Lional Mascarenhes, constant supporters of BELWAK since inception Joseph Dsouza, Elveera Dsouza and Lawrence Pinto, president Iveen Pinto and secretory Shanthi Mable Dalmeda were welcomed with a flower bouquet.
President Iveen Pinto welcomed the dignitaries and all the gathering. He also thanked and appreciated the team spirit of our BELWAK members.
Guest of honour Nellu Permannur was introduced to the audience and Lional Mascarenhas rendered festivity message to the gathering.
General secretary Shanthi Mable took the opportunity of introducing the BELWAK and new committee of 2019.
The stage was then open for the rest of the cultural programme. Blooming flowers of BELWAK Liesel Mendonca and Danston Cardoza swayed on stage with a beautiful dance. Then was followed by few games and the winners were honoured by gifts. Solo performance was by Marial Dsouza and Ashtal Cardoza. Young dancers rocked the stage with a song Zanvoy No1 by Vinitha Dsouza, Joyce Dsouza, Juilet Dsouza, Sweemal Dsilva, Vimala Dsouza and Austin Cardoza. Housie Housie game was conducted by Mervin Mathias, the main attraction of event was lucky draw. Coupons were distributed and the prize was ‘The Roster’ conducted by Clifford Dsouza.
Grace before the meal was by Priya Cardoza.
Vice president Nilesh Aranha extended his gratitude to all the members for their time, efforts and sponsorship contributed immensely towards the success of this occasion. He also expressed special thanks to the people who worked behind the screen for this day to make the event a great success.
The true spirit was associated in the form of auctioning of the vegetables by Vimala D'Souza.
The ‘Noven Jevan’ was served to the gathering.
