Rs 25 Crore Reserved for Devpt of Police Stations: Minister R Ashok

Bantwal, May 7: The state government has kept aside a sum of Rs 25 crore for the development of police stations in the state and the government has taken necessary measures to revise the system in police department, said state home and transport minister R Ashok.
He was speaking after inaugurating a police station in Vittal here on Saturday May 7.
He added that more importance will be given to the development of police stations in Dakshina Kannada district. About construction of new staff quarters for police personnel, he said that it will be taken care of in the coming days.
Development of Naxal-infested areas
The police department is investing its efforts on wiping out Naxal activities in the state, he said. Naxals have been losing their edge day by day, and the government is drafting various projects to bring them into the mainstream of the society, the minister said and added that the demands for basic facilities in Naxal-infested areas will be addressed soon.
Sub-division for Bantwal
Police sub-division in Bantwal will be sanctioned soon after holding a meeting with the officials concerned, Ashok said, adding that a plans are afoot to upgrade the police stations in Dharmasthala, Bellare and Nellyadi.
Making note of the prevaling peace and harmony in the state for three years, the minister said police should be friendly with farmers, citizens and students and should exercise strict control over those who intend to harm society.
Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad presided. District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai, Western Range IGP Alok Mohan, SP Laburam, B Nagaraj Shetty among other leaders were present.
Palemar questions plastic-wrapped bouquets
At the inaugural ceremony when guests were welcomed with bouquets wrapped in plastic covers, Palemar in his speech objected the use of plastic for such purposes. In his usual humorous manner, the minister said the officers concerned should take care of this and see that plastic is not used in government programmes.
