Kuwait: Agnesian Alumni hold AAK 'Fall Cheer'

Report by: Marita D’Mello

Kuwait, Oct 31: The sunrise of October the 28th was a special one for the Agnesian Alumni, Kuwait. When nature is putting on its best show with colors of every bright hue, the Agnesians, were all set to put out our very best for members, family and friends. It was an outdoor event with a noble cause called, ‘Fall Cheer.’

Lifting high the Agnesian banner and with the motto, ‘Deus Fortitudo’, instilled in their hearts, the committee members, gathered together and bowed their heads in prayer. After the long hush of the pandemic, it was time to get into an autumnal mood and hence they decorated the place dressed in burnt orange. Families and friends arrived at the Ahmadi Garden reflecting the bright rays of the autumnal sunshine on their faces.

The emcee for the day, Rosheen Mendonca left no stone unturned when it came to weaving the tapestry of events and activities for the day while making sure all guests felt welcome. Crystal D’Souza led us all in prayer. It was a moment of pride as they sang the college anthem, ‘God is Our Strength’, to echo the institution's motto. President of AAK, Annet Castelino, gave the welcome address, with the message, ”Alone, we can do can so little but together, we can do so much.”

She thanked all the guests and well wishers for their continued support for the noble cause of educating underprivileged young women, back home.

The day’s events included exciting games, for men, women, teens and toddlers alike. Spot games dotted the events all day. Country tunes that played softly, on speakers set up by ‘Impressions’, set the right ambience for a fun, family day, out in the sun. Children aged from 1 to 15, participated in the dress up event, ‘Fall for Change- Trick or Treat’. It was endearing to see such enthusiasm on the part of their parents who worked on the attire and positive messages.

Sweet treats brought added smiles on the faces of the little ones. They even had their favorites tattooed on their cheeks and arms by a kind friend.

Delicious and sumptuous food and beverages kept the guests satiated and hydrated all day long. A game of Housie after lunch was just the thing, to slow down the pace for a while as everyone present spread themselves out on the lawns as the gentle breeze started to blow. The vice president, Celine Mendonca, proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of AAK. She expressed a sincere sentiment of gratitude to all who helped make ‘Fall Cheer’ such a memorable event. Prizes wrapped in gold foil were distributed to all the winners of the day.

As the saffron orb started going down behind the trees, the mood was a joyous one. Committee members, humbly, took a bow as shout-outs of appreciation echoed.
