Mangalore / Gadag: State Toppers Ananya, Israr Banu Make Parents, Colleges, Proud

Mangalore, May 12: Ananya, student of St Philomena College in Puttur, who stood first in the entire state overall, besides topping the commerce segment of the second PU examination, is a very happy girl now. Daughter of Ganapati Bhat and Aruna from Darkhast House in Jalsoor, Ananya’s marks read like a dream – Accountancy (100), Kannada (100), Business Studies (100), Computer Science (100), Statistics (99), and English (93). Her total marks – 592.
She gives credit for her excellent performance to the guidance and inspiration provided to her by her parents, elder sister, college principal, as well as lecturers. She plans to become a chartered accountant. Listening to the lecturs attentively, studying the subjects on day-to-day basis, referring the text books repeatedly, conducting revision on the basis of old question papers etc, helped her to do well at the examinations, she confesses.
Her parents are also elated over the laurels brought to them by their daughter. They say she has stood up to the dreams they had for her, and are determined to help her to study further as per her desires.
College principal, Ivan Rodrigues, notes that Ananya is a multi-talented girl, as in addition to studies, she also has excelled in drawing, painting, short story writing, and other extra curricular activities. The college is prepared to help her in her future studies, he revealed.
Israr Banu Bellary, resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Gadag district, and student of Hulakoti Co-operative Educational Society in Gadag, has emerged with flying colours in the arts section. She is the topper in the state in the arts section of the second PU examination. Her father works as for a publication in Gadag with a salary of Rs 3,000 per month.
Israr’s achievement deserves even more appreciation, because she has excelled in studies in spite of utter poverty at home. Daughter of Mansur Sab Bellary and Mehrunnisa, Israr has scored 97 in Kannada, 88 in Hindi, 95 in education, 98 in political science, 95 in sociology and 99 in history. Her total marks – 572.
Banu says she is grateful for her parents and teachers for encouraging her. She desires to complete her post graduation in arts, and become a lecturer. Her elder sister, Mahaboobi, also passed her B E Ed examination recently with 92 percent marks.
State women and whild welfare minister, C C Patil, who also happens to be the district in-charge minister for Gadag, visited the residence of Israr on Wednesday night and congratulated her on her feat.
