Media Release

Udupi, Nov 11: The investiture ceremony of the students’ welfare council at St Mary’s College was held on Thursday November 10, in the Fr Henry Castelino auditorium.

Walter Nandalike, a proud alumnus of St Mary’s College Shirva (1988–91 batch) and founder of Daijiworld Media, was the chief guest. The function was presided over by Fr Leslie C D'Souza, correspondent, St Mary's and Don Bosco Institutions, Shirva. The formal inauguration was done by lighting the lamp. Dr Herald Ivan Monis, principal of St Mary's College, then administered the oath to Darryl Aenson D'Silva, III BCom, the newly elected student president.

Walter Nandalike, in his inaugural address, congratulated the members of the student council. He recalled his college days; and advised the students to write the competitive exams and gain power. He also stressed that the purpose of education is not only to gain marks but also to be disciplined in life, and only then one can become a responsible citizen. He said, “When your work is recognised and appreciated by your alma mater, the respect and the joy that you get cannot be expressed in words.”

Fr Dr Leslie C D’Souza, in his presidential address, congratulated the members of students’ council and graced the occasion.

The college choir group led the invocation. The director of the student council, Yashoda, welcomed the gathering. Lawrence Lopes and Supriya, compered the programme, and students’ council president, Darryl Aenson D'Silva, proposed the vote of thanks.

Dear Nandalike Sir, your speech was too good. I'm sure you made every audience emotional with nostalgic memories and true fact-based values you learned from this institution. Highly motivational address Sir! Keep it up!

Pragmatic words from Mastram Walty... Life after education surely needs gist of whatever learnt but lot of knowledge comes from what we learn during education... For that matter learning never stops after leaving the final institute... Life is a continuous learning process...
