Mangaluru: City police chief directs staff to ensure smooth traffic flow during peak hours

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Jun 25:  "All traffic police should be on the road during peak hours to manage traffic flow. When the staff monitors the traffic movements properly, the accident rate in the city will come down. The public will follow our discipline when we sincerely do our duty," said Police Commissioner Kuldip Kumar Jain.

He was speaking during the SC/ST grievance meeting here on Sunday, June 25.

He strictly cautioned against the use of mobile phones by the traffic police staff during working hours.

He added that during peak hours all traffic police staff should be on the road to help ease traffic flow without causing any public inconvenience.

Speaking about cyber crimes, the commissioner said that the police department is striving hard to resolve all kinds of cyber crimes.

When the leaders of the SC/ ST community complained that the wine shops in the city were kept open during the early morning, the Commissioner asked the police inspectors to do the needful. Also, he said that the public can give the names of the wine stores that remained open in the early morning.

District DSS leader SP Anand said, "Several things from Ambedkar Bhavan in Ganjimutt have been stolen. We do not know the status of the case."

Reacting to this Deputy Commissioner of Police B P Dinesh Kumar said, " FIRs have been filed and the case is under investigation."

Leaders also complained that several vehicles were moving at high speed at KPT Junction. So, the police department should take the necessary action.

DCP Dinesh Kumar said that the present police commissioner is so concerned about traffic issues. Totally, the police department is trying to resolve all traffic issues, he said.

DCP Anshu Kumar, ACP traffic Geetha Kulkarni and others were present.

City police is requested to look at the fate of Vas Lane at Falnir. For widening of road, almost all plots on this road were asked to give away upto 2.5 Meters (10ft) of their land. When everyone did this, Unit Hospital, which was the main bottleneck area, gave only 4ft of their land. Before road widening, there used to be parking of bikes along the road outside this hospital gate. Now the bikes are passed at right angles on both sides of road leaving space for only one vehicle to pass at a time. Two years back, before road widening started this hospital people gave away this 4 ft space just to accommodate parking of two wheelers. Later, while all started giving away upto 10ft of their land, this hospital did nothing. Now they are using the benefit of land given by others. It only shows that if you have influence you can get away with whatever you want. Let the concerned persons check this and ensure that no parking boards are put in front of this hospital.

One of the alternative is to avoid heavy transport vehicle(tippers, trailers)during peak hours and morning busy hours. Keep a timelimit. in areas like Nanthur junction.

Sir not only peak hours, off peak hours on highway like Nantoor Buses and Trucks speeding and most of the time accidents happens at off peak hours. Hence please install signal lights from evening 7 pm to 12 midnight and morning 5 am to 8 am. When traffic police are not on duty.

Yesterday evening it took me more than an hour to drive from pumpwell to lalbagh, instead of the usual 15 minutes. Total chaos everywhere. Wide roads tapering into smaller roads with motorists without discipline creates the bottleneck. At pumpwell circle (when we approach from padil side), the road which is around 5 lane width for no reason whatsoever tapers down to 3 lane right at the circle. This is absolutely unscientific
