Muscat, Aug 17: The Mangalorean Konkani Wing (MKW) of the Indian Social Club (ISC) held a very vibrant, colorful, fun filled cultural mega event ‘Konkani Family Fiesta’ on August 11 at the Platinum and Gold Auditorium of Oman Avenues Mall.

It was a fun and frolic event with games, cultural show and live performances, which gave the large gathering of members and their families a day-long entertainment filled with joy and laughter, and who at the end carried away a big smile.

The event began with an opening note from the master of ceremony Peter Fernandes, who is the force behind the whole preparation of this event alongside all the executive committee members. The tunes of national anthem of Oman and India were then played while the whole gathering stood in attention. As a Mangalurean tradition and sign of welcoming guests before commencement of any event, a tray full of betel leaves and areca nuts, and a pot full of water gestured towards the gathering. This followed by a welcome note by the convener of the MKW Ajith Walder, who welcomed chief guests, dignitaries and all the members and their families of Konkani speaking community.

I was in Muscat some years back. Good to know MKW is an affiliated section of Indian Social Club and attached to Indian Embassy. The charity works mentioned are praise worthy and need to be carried out by any Social Org. I commend the initiative and happy to read / see my known faces in the the first public gathering of MKW. All the best!

As a long-standing MKW member, I sadly missed the Konkani Family Fiesta due to my overseas absence. Yet, I delighted in reviewing event reports and photos, recognizing Mr. Ajith's team's dedicated work that led to a successful outdoor event – a first for MKW. With 400+ attendees enjoying entertaining games and delicious food, I encourage the organization of such events at least twice a year to provide much-needed refreshment and broaden the community's reach.
