Mumbai, Aug 7: Former minister of Maharastra and now a Shiv Sena leader, Sureshdada Jain has come down heavily on social activist and civil society leader Anna Hazare who is fighting for Lokpal bill, by criticizing him as 'Taliban Gandhi' who is misusing the name of the father of the nation in the name of 'anti-corruption' movement.
"Fighting against corruption is not the monopoly of Anna Hazare's father. India is a great democratic country, and it has its own way of stopping corruption. Who is Anna Hazare to dictate terms? He is just blackmailing the constitution and democratic process. He is already losing the popularity," Sureshdada Jain told the media on Saturday.
It may be recalled that Anna Hazare is facing a defamation case in the court, filed by Jain.
In 2003, Anna Hazare accused Sureshdada Jain, the then NCP leader and state minister of corruption and launched an agitation. On Anna's demand the ruling party had ordered an enquiry against Jain and two other ministers. In 2005, the inquiry committee had indicted Jain along with other two ministers on the corruption issue.
Later, Jain lost the ministry but filed a defamation case against Hazare for alleging corruption charges against him. Interestingly, the government has formed a commission to probe the complaint. Hazare was also indicted under several counts of corrupt practices by the commission.
