Mumbai, Aug 11 (IANS) An all-party delegation of the Maharashtra opposition will call on Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Friday to demand the dismissal of the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance government after three protesting farmers were killed in police firing.

"We will meet the governor and demand that the state government be dismissed. It has lost its right to continue in office," Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse, of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), told media persons here Thursday evening.

The opposition will also lodge a complaint on the incident with the State Human Rights Commission and the alleged police atrocities on the villagers who were protesting peacefully, he added.

In their meeting with the governor, the delegation will raise the issue of the police firing in Maval sub-district in Pune Tuesday (Aug 9), in which three people lost their lives while protesting takeover of their lands for a proposed water pipeline project.

Simultaneously, the BJP has announced a statewide protest programme on the Maval incidents starting Aug 16, a party leader said.

"We will carry out protests and highlight the 'anti-farmers policies' pursued by the ruling Democratic Front government," said state BJP secretary Mukund Kulkarni.

He said that state BJP chief Sudhir Mungantiwar has also called upon all party workers, farmers and supporters to join the protests which will be held at all talukas (sub-districts) across the state.
