Udupi: Building material transport truck given Oct 7 deadline to install GPS

Udupi, Sep 29: In the meeting that was presided over by the deputy commissioner (DC) on Thursday September 28, a decision was taken to install GPS in trucks that transport building construction materials. Hence a deadline of October 7 has been set for the truck owners to install GPS in the vehicles.

A meeting was held on Thursday between the representatives of the protesting truck owners and five MLAs of Udupi in the presence of the DC.

Issues faced by building construction contractors and daily wage workers due to the truck drivers and owners strike were also discussed in the meeting.

DC Dr Vidya Kumari, MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Sunil Kumar, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Gururaj Gantihole, superintendent of police Arun, officials of mines and geology department and office bearers of truck owners’ association were present.

    There is talk among own party cadres this is done to teach a lesson to opponents & citizens & drive up construction material cost. New officers who know nothing about ground realities posted here for specific mission of teaching a lesson. Construction work is at a stand still & people sitting at home.
