Doha (Qatar), Oct 31: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ), a renowned organisation for Kannadigas in Qatar is all set to celebrate the '68th Karnataka Rajyotsava' on November 3 at DPS-MIS Auditorium, Al Wakrah.
Addressing news persons, KSQ president Mahesh Gowda revealed that the programme will be followed by the presence of eminent personalities like Sandalwood renowned actor producer and director V Ravichandran as special guest of honour and his excellency Vipul, the ambassador of India to the state of Qatar, will be the chief guest of the evening.
Meanwhile, renowned Kannada writer Girish Rao Hatwar, popularly known as Jogi will be the guest of honour for the function. Mahesh continued and announced that Jogi will be honoured in the same mega event with ‘Qatar Kannada Samman Award-2023’ for his Kannada literary works.
A special entertainment programme will be followed by Kannada renowned singers Bhumika L Madhusudan and Shreenidhi G Shastry. Doordarshan anchor Savi Prakash will be compering the event.
Continuing the tradition, KSQ will be celebrating Karnataka Rajyotsava - a cultural fiesta consisting of more than 100 local artistes and other Karnataka-origin organisations in Qatar namely Mangalore Cricket Club, Mangalore Cultural Associations and Bunts Qatar. This time the function will be a colourful cultural entertainment event after a long period of pandemic, said president Mahesh Gowda.
Gates will be open from 4 pm onwards. Entry is free for all.
About V Ravichandran
Veeraswamy Ravichandran is an Indian actor, director, producer, music director, lyricist and editor in the Kannada film industry. He is the son of film producer N Veeraswamy. As producer, Ravichandran continues to run his father's production house, Sri Eswari Productions. He is popularly known as 'Crazy Star', a title his fans have prefixed to his name.
He is also often referred to as 'The Showman of Kannada cinema' for his multifaceted works in his films. He made his debut in the film Khadeema Kallaru (1982) and followed it up with Chakravyuha (1983).
Later, Ravichandran acted in his directorial debut - Premaloka (1987) - which gained immense acclaim from the critics and audiences. Some of his most notable works include Ranadheera (1988), Yuddha Kaanda (1989), Ramachaari (1991), Halli Meshtru (1992), Gadibidi Ganda (1993), Sipayi (1996), Yaare Neenu Cheluve (1998) and Malla (2004).
Ravichandra was last seen in the films Paramashiva (2014), Luv U Alia (2015), Shrungara (2015), Apoorva (2016) and Buckaasuura (2018). His 2019 releases include Paddehuli, directed by Guru Deshpande, Dasharatha, Kurukshetra and Aa Drushya.
About Jogi, writer and journalist
Girish Rao Hatwar, popularly known as Jogi, is a Kannada writer and journalist. Being one of the Kannada neo-literature writers, he has written short stories, novels and columns in many Kannada periodicals and daily newspapers.
He has also written scripts for television serials, lyrics and screenplay for movies. A journalist by profession, Jogi is currently a Kannada monthly magazine editor of Kannada Prabha daily.
Born into an agricultural family in Hosabettu near Surathkal in Dakshina Kannada district, Jogi studied in Guruvayankere and Uppinangadi. Along with journalism and literature activities, Jogi wrote dialogues for Kannada television serials.
Jogi wrote the script and dialogue of the movie Mouni, which is based on a
novel by U R Ananthamurthy and the film Kaada Beladingalu written by Jogi was adapted as a movie and it bagged the Karnataka state film awards for 2006-07 in the categories of best social film and best story.
Jogi's stories were published in Mayura, Taranga, Tushara, Sudha, O Manase magazines, as well as Kannada Prabha and Prajavani newspapers.
He also wrote essays for Lankesh Patrike in the name of H Girish. He used to write book reviews under pseudo names and was also in-charge of Roopatara being published under the Manipal group. As of 2022, he is working as chief magazine editor of Kannada Prabha.
