Udupi, Sep 16:
The excise department destroyed 9,000 litres of liquor worth Rs 10 lac, by pouring it into Alevoor Bendurkatte river, near here on Friday September 16 evening.

The excise department officials had seized a truckload of liquor, containing 252 cans at Hebri near here in August 2010. The truck bore a fake number plate of Haryana, which will be auctioned shortly.

The officials destroyed the stock as per the orders of the court, for which they had been waiting until now.

Excise DC Somayya, deputy superintendent Gurumurti, inspector Soumyalata, sub-inspector Narayan, excise personnel Divakar, Sudhakar, Ravindranath, Pundalik Upadhyaya, Venkataprasad Golla, Home Guards personnel Dinesh and Uday Kulal were involved in this operation.

Half-mad is one who throws liquor in river. Full-mad are those who argue about it after it is already done.

This is brilliant! There must not be any laws against water pollution or endangering eco-systems within rivers. How wonderful it must be to have a convenient river to dump stuff into. So let not anyone complain when someone else follows the lead of the Excise Dept. and dumps batteries, tyres, toxic chemicals etc into the rivers.

Good to know that the Excise DC, Deputy Superindent, and Inspector were leading the show and it wasn't just people lower in the hierarchy who were implementing this brilliant policy.

    Dear Lancy,
I am a chemist. Density has no role in solubility! Alcohol has high affinity towards water, means alcohol and water simply dissolve rapidly at all concentrations. Thats why once these two are mixed its not possible to seperate them by distillation and any other physical method except chemical methods(adsorption techniques). Alcohol(ethanol) distills at a constant composition of 95% in water whichever distillation method is employed. Take a clear Glass of water and add very slowly one of coloured alcohol at the top and observe carefully. please share your results next time!

Liquor should not pour into the river, because it is effective for marine life.
Initially when MCF started they had left waste chemical water to the sea and all the fish died, fell on the shore. so that now shortage of fish for mangalore.

What a foolishness to spoil river water. I think this department all like headless chickens. The fish in the river will die due to acidic content and polute the nature. Some one need to file a case in the appropriate court who caused the damage to the nature based on these report

To correct one illegal thing another illegal method was adopted by disposing off the liquor in river! Alcohol/milk cannot be put in water bodies as these are classified as extremely dangerous to water bodies and aquatic life.

Once it was seized it became govt property. It can be utilized for Medicine manufacture, Gasohol (Alternative fuel to Gasoline - Petrol).

Why wasting....? May be these POLY's don't know other use of Alcohol. They know it WELL that it is used as Beverage ...

Even though it was transporting illegally, there are many resources used to manufacture it. Ask POLY's to prepare it. They will come to know....
