Puttur, Jun 17: Two cars collided head-on at Shekamale near Kumbra on the Mani-Mysuru national highway on the evening of Sunday, June 16, killing two people on the spot.

The deceased are identified as Lokesh (48) and Ravindra B N (52), both natives of Kushalnagar traveling in an Alto car. The occupants of the Bolero car sustained minor injuries and have been admitted to a private hospital in Puttur.

The Alto car was traveling from Mangaluru to Tygathoor in Kodagu. It hit a scooter rider near Shekamale, causing the rider minor injuries. The car then collided with the Bolero vehicle, which was traveling from Eshwaramangala to Puttur.

Ravindra, one of the deceased, was working as a tanker driver in Mangaluru and had rented a room there. He had come with his friend Lokesh to collect his belongings as he was vacating the room. According to eyewitnesses, Ravindra was driving the car at high speed and on the wrong side of the road from Kumbra.

The daughter of the deceased, Lokesh, had just joined the nursing profession a week ago in Sullia. He had spoken to her before starting the journey.

It is also reported that the Alto car had overtaken an auto-rickshaw at high speed in Kumbra. The same auto-rickshaw driver took both Lokesh and Ravindra to the hospital in Puttur, who had succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

This is the end result of too much of Over confidence. We don't value human life in this Country may be because of belief in punar janma...now only loss for the families of the deceased. RIP

RIP!! Broadening and straitening of roads, without commensurate safety measures, have made many speed happy people to throw caution to the winds making road travel of other drivers very risky; in the last 2 years this place has become very very infamous for fatal RTAs, worst than third world places; even pedestrians are not safe anymore! Only the traveler's favourite Gods blessings can protect them from accidents!😞🙏
