Mangaluru, Jun 20: In a flagrant disregard for environmental and legal norms, the sand mafia has brazenly encroached upon Pavoor Uliya Island, leaving its residents in turmoil. With over forty boats and a hundred laborers engaged in illegal sand mining operations, the picturesque island is shrinking at an alarming rate of 10 to 15 meters daily.
The once-tranquil island, nestled off the coast, has become a battleground for its 52 families, who now face a daunting reality. The incessant mining activities not only disrupt the ecosystem but also endanger the livelihoods of those who call Pavoor home.
Local residents have voiced their anguish over the worsening situation, describing the mining as a nightmare that threatens their very existence. Despite repeated appeals to authorities, the activities of the sand mafia persist unchecked, exacerbating the plight of the island's inhabitants.
In a shocking twist to the ongoing saga of illegal sand mining on Pavoor Island, locals have leveled serious accusations against the sand mafia, alleging unholy alliances with local politicians, police, and officers of the mining department.
"The accusations paint a grim picture of corruption and complicity," remarked one resident, speaking anonymously. "They seem to have a free rein over the island, with little regard for the law or the welfare of the community."
The nexus between the sand mafia and influential figures reportedly spans across political circles, law enforcement agencies, and the mining department. Such allegations have fueled widespread disillusionment and anger among Pavoor Island's 52 families, who feel abandoned by the very officials tasked with protecting their interests.
"We feel betrayed by those who are supposed to safeguard us," lamented another resident. "Instead of upholding the law, they appear to be in cahoots with the perpetrators, allowing our island to be pillaged for personal gain."
Calls for an impartial investigation into these allegations have grown louder within the community. Local activists and concerned citizens are demanding transparency and accountability from authorities, urging swift action to dismantle the mafia's network and restore justice to Pavoor Island.
As the controversy deepens, residents remain steadfast in their resolve to expose the truth and reclaim their island from the clutches of corruption. The battle against the sand mafia and its alleged accomplices has become a rallying cry for justice and integrity, resonating far beyond the shores of Pavoor Island.

Thu, Jun 20 2024Congress Govt in karnataka, must take strong steps to punish and prevent, these illegal activities,. It is true that people overwhelmingly voted for BJP in twin districts. That should not deter govt, taking harsh steps against illegal activities. In a way, it could open up eyes of at least a few bhakths.
