Puttur: Elderly woman foils chain snatching bid, hands over thieves to police

Puttur, Jul 16: In a daring act of bravery, an elderly woman thwarted two chain snatchers who attempted to steal her gold chain at a shop in Addahole, Nelyadi.

The courageous woman, identified as Trasiamma (60), who runs a shop selling dry fruits, not only prevented the theft but also apprehended the culprits.


Accused Rohit and Ashok

The accused, Rohit (25) and Ashok (25), residents of Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru, arrived at Trasiamma's shop on a scooter. They tried to snatch her chain but were promptly caught by Trasiamma herself. She immediately alerted the police, leading to their arrest.

It was discovered that the scooter used by the thieves had been stolen from a two-wheeler showroom in Mangaluru. The accused had taken advantage of a test drive opportunity to steal the vehicle.

Uppinangady police have registered a case in connection with the attempted chain snatching and the theft of the scooter.
