Beltangady, Sep 2: The Alumni Association of Sacred Heart College, in collaboration with Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) Ltd and Justice KS Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte, successfully organized a free eye check-up camp at the college premises on September 1. The event attracted an impressive turnout, with 340 individuals registering and undergoing eye examinations. Of these, 199 were identified as needing free spectacles, and 29 were referred for further specialized treatment.
The camp was inaugurated by the esteemed MLA of Belthangady and proud alumnus of Sacred Heart College, Harish Poonja. Distinguished guests at the inaugural ceremony included S Girish, chief manufacturing officer of MCF Ltd.; Dr Stany Goveas, correspondent of Sacred Heart Institutions; Prof Alex Ivan Sequeira, principal of Sacred Heart College; and Wilson Rupesh Moras, president of the Alumni Association, Sacred Heart College.
The event began with a soulful prayer song sung by college students, followed by a warm welcome and introductory remarks by Dr Yogish, a member of the administration team.
In his inaugural address, Harish Poonja fondly reminisced about his cherished memories at the college and praised the organizers for their initiative aimed at bringing 'light to society'. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his former professors, whose guidance he continues to treasure.
Dr Stany Goveas extended his sincere thanks to the Alumni Association for their dedication to such a noble cause. He emphasized the importance of giving back to the community and commended the Association's efforts in realizing this vision.
Principal Prof Alex Ivan Sequeira acknowledged the extensive planning and hard work that went into organizing the event. He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved for their unwavering commitment to the college's mission of service.
S Girish, in his presidential remarks, expressed delight at the remarkable turnout for the camp. He praised the meticulous arrangements made by the organizers and noted that such a large and enthusiastic response from the public is a rarity in similar initiatives. He particularly appreciated the efforts of Wilson Rupesh Moras, president of the Alumni Association and an MCF Ltd. employee, whose dedication was instrumental in making the camp a resounding success. Girish also extended his thanks to the medical team led by Dr Hrishikesh Amin from Justice K S Hegde Hospital for their continued support in MCF’s eye care projects.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Wilson Rupesh Moras, who expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, and volunteers. The program was elegantly emceed by Nelson Monis and Rose Priya Pinto.
