Moodbidri, Oct 10: On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the department of UG and PG psychology at Alva's, in collaboration with the Alva's Centre for Wellness Training, organized a day dedicated to promoting mental health awareness. The event aimed to shed light on the importance of mental well-being and to foster a better understanding of psychological health among students, staff, and the broader community.

The day began with the inauguration of a psychology exhibition titled 'Metanoia', a fitting name that reflects the transformative process of changing one's mindset and understanding mental health. The exhibition was inaugurated by Vivek Alva trustee Alva's Education Foundation, addressing the gathering at the occasion he emphasised the role of empathy among psychology students, role of peers in supporting mental health, Dr Kurian principal of Alva’s degree provided insights on the relevance of social interaction in enhancing mental health.

The exhibition featured eight intricately designed models, each representing various aspects of mental health. These models visually highlighted concepts like Adler’s Birth Order, Emotional Brain, Digital detox, power of Positive emotions, ecological theory and Behavioural Ice Berg serving as educational tools to deepen the understanding of Mental well-being.

In addition to the models, six positive psychology assessments were set up, allowing attendees to engage in self-assessments based on theories of human strengths and virtues. These assessments were grounded in positive psychology principles and were aimed at helping individuals identify their personal strengths and areas for improvement.

Furthermore, eight interactive challenge booths were spread across the venue, each designed to engage participants in activities like concept formation, selective attention, eye hand coordination, problem solving and critical thinking. These booths provided an experiential learning opportunity, making mental health education both engaging and hands-on.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across various colleges of the Alvas Education Foundation (AEF). Their involvement added to the diversity of perspectives and highlighted the collective interest in mental health awareness among the student community.

The entire event was designed with the objective of spreading awareness about mental health and creating a supportive environment where discussions about psychological well-being could flourish. By merging theory with practice, the department succeeded in encouraging participants to develop positive mental health in their daily lives.

The heads of the psychology department Dr Audrey Pinto, and Josvita D’Sa, Dr Deepa Kotari, director of the Alvas Centre for Wellness Training, Dr Mookambika the IQAC Coordinator and the faculty members of various departments were present during the occasion.
