New Delhi, Dec 16: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for the free online document upload facility for Aadhaar card holders until June 14, 2025. Initially set to end on June 14, 2024, the deadline had been extended several times, first to September 14, 2024, and then to December 14, 2024.
In an official tweet, UIDAI announced: “#UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till June 14, 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar number holders. This free service is available only on #myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their #Aadhaar.”
This extension provides Aadhaar cardholders with an additional opportunity to update their information free of charge, with a final deadline set for June 14, 2025. The earlier deadline for free updates had been December 14, 2024.
How to update Aadhaar details online:
• Visit the Aadhaar Self-Service portal on the official UIDAI website.
• Log in using your Aadhaar number, captcha, and the OTP sent to your mobile.
• Go to the "Document Update" section and review your current details.
• Select the relevant document type from the drop-down list and upload the scanned copies of the required documents.
• Make sure to note down the service request number to track the status of your update.
Why is updating Aadhaar card information important?
It is essential to keep your Aadhaar details up to date to avoid complications in the future. For children who were enrolled for Aadhaar before the age of five, biometric updates are required at the ages of five and fifteen.
Offline updates for biometric changes:
For those needing to update biometric details (such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs), the process must be done offline at an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
The steps for offline updates include:
• Downloading and completing the enrolment/update form from the UIDAI website.
• Submitting the completed form and supporting documents at the centre.
• Providing biometric data for verification.
• Receiving an acknowledgment slip with a unique reference number (URN) for tracking progress.
This continued free service provides much-needed convenience for Aadhaar holders, encouraging timely updates to ensure their records remain accurate.
