Udupi, Jan 13: In observance of National Road Safety Week, Podar International School organized a road safety campaign and rally from Diana Circle to Udupi city bus stop on Saturday, January 13.

The event, held in collaboration with the Udupi district police and Udupi police sub-divisions, saw active participation from 130 students from grades 5, 6, and 7, eight teaching staff, supporting staff, and police officials.

The students also performed a skit focusing on social awareness and road safety, effectively conveying the importance of adhering to traffic rules.

Speaking at the event, Mansur Ali A, secretary (teacher member) emphasized the need for such initiatives, stating, "Every year, around 35,000 people lose their lives in road accidents in India. Through this campaign and collaboration with Udupi Traffic Police, we aim to educate the public about the significance of following traffic rules for personal and familial safety. Kolkata leads in following traffic rules, while Bengaluru ranks third. We hope this campaign spreads awareness and benefits future generations."

Yathik, a student of Podar International School, shared, "Our school has initiated this campaign to make everyone aware of road safety. Most accidents occur due to negligence, such as not wearing helmets or seat belts. Through this, we want to encourage everyone to adopt safe practices."

Abhay, another student, added, "We are raising awareness about the traffic rules that everyone must follow. Using mobile phones while driving, triple riding, and ignoring speed limits are common causes of accidents. Wearing helmets, seat belts, and following traffic signals are crucial for everyone's safety."
