State BJP criticises Justice Nagamohan Das’ report on 40% commission allegations

Bengaluru, March 13: The Karnataka BJP has sharply criticised the report submitted by Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das on the alleged 40% commission during the previous BJP government, calling it "politically motivated".

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, speaking to the media in Bengaluru, raised questions regarding the impartiality of Justice Nagamohan Das, accusing him of consistently submitting reports that favour the Congress party. Ashoka argued that the recent report, which looked into allegations of a 40% commission, was politically driven, and questioned the veracity of the investigation.

“The report by Justice Nagamohan Das is entirely political. The Congress-led government made the allegation of 40 per cent commission, but how can an investigation determine the exact percentage?” Ashoka asked, adding, “What criteria were adopted for the investigation? What documents have been provided to substantiate the findings?”

The BJP leader also raised concerns about the consistent appointment of Justice Nagamohan Das by the Congress whenever they are in power. “The Congress-led government always prefers to appoint this particular individual. No other judges are considered. For all investigations, Justice Nagamohan Das is permanently chosen by the Congress. He has a track record of submitting reports as desired by the Congress party,” Ashoka claimed.

Ashoka went on to criticise the report, asserting that the Karnataka Lokayukta had already submitted a clean chit on the 40 per cent commission charges, citing the lack of evidence to support the allegations. “The Karnataka Lokayukta has already submitted a report giving a clean chit regarding these allegations, stating that no evidence exists to support the 40 per cent commission charge. So how did he obtain special documents?” Ashoka said.

He dismissed the report submitted by Justice Nagamohan Das as a politically charged inquiry, comparing it to the previous Kempanna Commission that probed the Arkavathi denotification case. “This is a Congress-backed inquiry commission, formed in the same manner as the Kempanna Commission to probe the Arkavathi denotification case. It is a ploy to target and criticise the BJP politically,” he argued.

Ashoka further questioned the speed of the commission’s investigation. “The real investigation is being conducted by the Lokayukta, and the case is also in court. BJP MLA N. Munirathna has filed a case, yet no developments have taken place either in court or with the Lokayukta. How has this commission managed to complete the probe so quickly?” he asked.

The political war over commission allegations in Karnataka has escalated since the submission of the report by the Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission on the alleged 40% commission under the previous BJP government. In retaliation, the Karnataka BJP launched a poster campaign accusing the Congress-led government of taking a 60% commission.

On social media platform X, the Karnataka BJP shared a motion poster with the caption “Just loot it; flat 60% Commission,” featuring an image of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The poster, titled “All day, all night – just loot it,” further fuels the political controversy surrounding the commission issue.
