Mangaluru, Apr 11: Ongoing repair work on the old Netravati bridge at Jeppinamogaru along National Highway 66 has led to daily traffic congestion, as vehicles are being diverted to the newly constructed bridge where two-way traffic is currently permitted.
Traffic jams are especially severe during peak morning and evening hours, with vehicles stretching from Pumpwell and Kallapu areas, often piling up till the Thokkottu flyover. Even emergency vehicles are finding it difficult to pass through due to the gridlock.

To ease the congestion, light vehicles heading towards Deralakatte and Konaje, or coming from those areas towards Mangaluru, are being diverted via the Harekala-Pavoor bridge. However, this route too is witnessing heavy traffic during rush hours.
Commuters traveling from Thokkottu, Talapady, and Kerala towards Mangaluru are now compelled to start their journey at least an hour earlier than usual. As a result, the public and regular commuters are urging authorities to expedite the repair work on the old bridge and ensure smoother traffic flow at the earliest.
