Mangaluru: Maryhill helipad road turns into water trap, students wade through flooded stretch

Mangaluru, May 21: Residents have voiced concerns over severe waterlogging near the Maryhill helipad, which has become a major inconvenience for pedestrians, especially schoolchildren and students. The road remains submerged, making it extremely difficult for people to walk through the area safely.

The root cause of the issue appears to be the unscientific dumping of construction debris in the vicinity of the helipad. With no proper drainage system in place, rainwater has no outlet, leading to significant accumulation on the road.

Locals fear the situation could worsen with continued heavy rainfall in Mangaluru. “It’s becoming dangerous for schoolchildren and senior citizens. This problem has been ignored for too long,” said a resident.

They are urging the concerned authorities to take immediate action by clearing the debris and constructing a functional drainage path, to ensure both pedestrian safety and smooth traffic flow.

As the monsoon intensifies, timely intervention is crucial to prevent further inconvenience and potential hazards.

Authorities are being called upon to prioritise the issue by removing the construction waste and implementing a sustainable drainage system to resolve the recurring waterlogging near the Mayhill helipad.
