Mumbai, Oct 7: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced plans to transform Goregaon Film City into a world-class film ecosystem, aiming to rival mega establishments in Hyderabad and Noida.
Speaking at the FICCI Frames 2025 event, the CM said the state will develop state-of-the-art studios on the 500-acre complex in Mumbai’s western suburbs. “The entire area will be turned into an iconic global-level film hub. Work will begin next year, and the transformation is expected to complete in four years,” he added.

Established in 1977, Mumbai Film City—Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari—has long been the capital of India’s film industry, with 42 outdoor shooting locations. However, cities like Hyderabad and Noida have emerged as competitors. Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad spans over 1,666 acres, while Noida Film City covers 1,000 acres along the Yamuna Expressway, housing multiple studios and media houses.
The CM’s announcement signals a renewed push to maintain Mumbai’s legacy as the heart of Indian cinema while offering cutting-edge facilities for filmmakers.
