Mangaluru, Oct 29: Inauguration of diploma courses was held at Robert Sequeira Hall, LCRI Block at St Aloysius Deemed to be University campus on October 29 at 11 am.

Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto SJ, rector – St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru was the president of the programme. Arvind Shrivastav - centre head, FIZA by Nexus Mall, Mangaluru was the chief guest of the programme. Dr Praveen Martis SJ - vice chancellor, St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru; Fr John Dsouza S J - director, St Aloysius Centre for Technical Diploma; Roshan Dsouza - principal, St Aloysius ITI; Alwyn Menezes - vice principal, St Aloysius ITI; Noel Lobo & Wilson N - training officers, St Aloysius ITI; Kiran D'Souza - convener of the programme; staff members, students and parents were present.

 

The programme commenced with a prayer song which was led by the students of Diploma in Fashion Designing. Roshan Dsouza - principal of St Aloysius ITI briefed about the new venture of diploma courses. Fr John Dsouza S J - director, St Aloysius Centre for Technical Diploma welcomed the gathering.

The inauguration of diploma courses 2025-26 was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by dignitaries.

Navyalaxmi - student of Diploma in Electric Vehicle & Automotive Mechatronics was felicitated for her achievements in Karate. The felicitation ceremony was led by Vanditha Rego - JTO, St Aloysius ITI.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest spoke about the value of leading a meaningful and successful life, emphasising the significance of values, emotions, and energy in shaping one’s personal and professional growth. He urged the students to add value to their work, remain motivated, and approach every task with dedication and purpose. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being, reminding students that true success lies in balance and discipline. Appreciating their ability to multitask and learn quickly, he commended the enthusiasm and adaptability of the young generation. Concluding his address, he encouraged the students to face challenges with confidence and to strive for excellence in all their pursuits.”

Addressing the gathering vice-chancellor, Dr Praveen Martis SJ said, “the importance of skill-based and practical learning in today’s rapidly evolving industries. Emphasising that theoretical knowledge must be complemented with hands-on experience, he stated that practical skills play a vital role in achieving both professional excellence and personal growth. He urged students to make the best use of opportunities offered through technical education, continuously sharpen their abilities, and stay updated with emerging technologies. He also encouraged them to combine hard work with smart work to achieve meaningful results. Concluding his address, he inspired the students to be creative, innovative, and productive contributors to society and the nation at large.”

In his presidential address, Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto SJ said, “He emphasised that there is tremendous scope for skill-based education in today’s competitive world." Highlighting the current employment trends, he pointed out that while many graduates with traditional degrees such as BA, BCom, or BSc often face challenges in securing jobs, individuals equipped with technical skills and diploma qualifications are increasingly in demand across various industries.

Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), he stressed the importance of skill development as a national priority and commended St Aloysius University for taking proactive steps to implement this vision through its technical and vocational programmes. He also inspired the students not to be job seekers but job creators, urging them to think big, contribute meaningfully to society, and play an active role in nation-building and sustainable development.

The cultural programme was performed by the diploma students.

Wilma Sequeira, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Robin Vas - JTO, St Aloysius ITI and Debora Christina - student of Diploma in Fashion Designing.
