Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 11: A health awareness seminar was organised for the students of Grade V to VIII at Mount Carmel Central School on November 7. The resource person for the session was Dr Ganesh H K, MD, DM (Endocrinology), professor and head of the Department of Endocrinology, A J Hospital and Research Centre, Mangaluru.

The programme began with a prayer, setting a positive tone for the session. Dr Ganesh addressed the students on the importance of maintaining good health and explained how the human body functions like an engine, where glucose acts as the fuel and energy as the power.

He educated the students about type 1 and type 2 diabetes, emphasising the need for regular physical exercise and a balanced diet. The doctor also discussed the causes of obesity and introduced the concept of the ‘Power Plate’, recommending that 50% of the plate should contain fibre, 25% proteins, and 25% carbohydrates. He further gave valuable insights into healthy snacking habits that help maintain proper energy levels throughout the day.

The session was compered by teacher Preema and concluded with a vote of thanks by teacher Vani, who gracefully guided the programme to its close. Gratitude was expressed to Dr Ganesh for his enlightening talk and to all who contributed to making the event a success.

After the formal session, the students of Grade VII were given a live demonstration on checking body fat using a Body Fat Analyser, which made the programme both informative and engaging.
