Mangaluru, Nov 11: Carmel School, Kotekar, organised its Annual Sports Meet 2025–26 on November 10 with great enthusiasm and splendour.
The inaugural ceremony began with a warm welcome to the chief guest, Pradeep D’Souza, joint director, Planning and Statistical Department and District Sports Officer, Dakshina Kannada, along with the distinguished presence of joint secretary Sr Juliana Mary, principal Sr Pramila, administrator Sr Julie Ann, vice principal Sr Anitha, Sr Sheetal, headmistress of Stella Maris Kannada Medium School, PTA vice president Sudheer, and PTA coordinator Veekshitha.
The dignitaries were escorted to the ground by the rhythmic beats of the school band, as the audience greeted them with loud applause. The March Past that followed displayed admirable discipline, synchronisation, and pride as the chief guest received the salute.

The school flag was hoisted with honour, marking the official commencement of the sports meet. This was followed by a meaningful invocation and a graceful welcome dance. The formal welcome address was delivered by the principal, Sr Pramila, who warmly greeted the dignitaries, parents, and students, setting a gracious and dignified tone for the day.
The Olympic Torch Relay, carried by outstanding school athletes, added brilliance and significance to the event. Upon receiving the torch, the chief guest lit the sports flame, symbolising hope, unity, and excellence.
Students then took the sports oath, pledging integrity and determination, while the release of doves conveyed a message of peace and harmony. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the March Past, celebrating their discipline and team spirit.
In his inspiring address, Pradeep D’Souza emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting young sportspersons through free hostel facilities, professional training, and various growth opportunities. He urged students to take full advantage of these resources and aim higher in their sporting journeys. He expressed concern that many parents discourage children from participating in sports for fear of academic decline and advised them to strike a balance between both. He also highlighted the ill effects of excessive mobile use, encouraging students to reduce screen time and engage in outdoor games.
Sharing personal experiences, he reminded them that consistent practice, not immediate victory, is the key to improvement. He concluded by urging parents to support their children in the sports they love, helping them maintain balance and perseverance.
The day’s athletic events unfolded with great energy and enthusiasm, featuring track and field competitions such as relays, long jump, high jump, shot put, and other events. Teachers and parents too participated spiritedly, adding cheer and liveliness to the occasion. At the end of the events, Red Squad (Roses) emerged as march past champions, while green squad (Orchids) secured the runners-up position.
The valedictory ceremony commenced at 1:30 pm in the presence of chief guest Swasthik Anchan, senior software engineer and functional fitness coach at Ground Sports Fitness, along with principal Sr Pramila, administrator Sr Julie Ann, vice principal Sr Anitha, Sr Sheetal, PTA vice president Sudheer, and PTA coordinator Veekshitha. Prizes were awarded to the winners from Classes I to IV, and the results of the mass drill competition were announced: Green Squad won first place, Blue Squad secured second, and Purple Squad took third.
In his heartfelt address, Swasthik Anchan shared how sports had transformed his life. He congratulated the winners and motivated others not to lose heart, reminding them that every athlete gets another chance to succeed. He stressed that true success stems from discipline, consistency, and the courage to try again.
Drawing from his own experiences, he highlighted that improvement requires time, effort, and dedication, and that sports and academics can complement each other by developing focus and time management skills. He urged students to give their best every time they step onto the field, and encouraged parents to support their children’s sporting dreams while maintaining a healthy academic balance.
The event concluded with the lowering of the school flag and an expression of gratitude by the Principal, who thanked all participants, staff, and parents for their cooperation and enthusiastic support.
The day ended with the National Anthem, marking a dignified close to a memorable celebration of teamwork, dedication, and the Carmel spirit of striving for excellence.
The Annual Sports Meet 2025–26 was a resounding success—celebrating not only victories, but also unity, discipline, and sportsmanship. It will be fondly remembered as a day that reflected the vibrant energy and unbreakable Carmel spirit.
