Beltangady, Dec 23: Bloodstains believed to be that of an animal were found on the road at Upparadkka in Hathyadka village along the Kokkada–Arasinamakki road in Belthangady taluk, triggering concerns among local residents.
The blood marks were noticed early on the morning of December 21. According to locals, the pattern of the stains suggests that one animal may have attacked another and dragged it away along the road.
Following information from residents, officials from the Forest Department visited the spot and conducted an inspection. However, they were unable to immediately ascertain the species of the animal involved.

Locals pointed out that smaller animals are usually carried away in the jaws by predators, whereas in this case the prey appears to have been dragged, leading to suspicion that a larger wild animal may be involved.
Adding to the concern, elephant dung has reportedly been found in the Arekal area of Hathyadka village, indicating recent elephant movement in the region.
