Bengaluru, Dec 24: A shocking incident of daylight assault was reported in Bengaluru after a 21-year-old woman was allegedly harassed and brutally attacked by a man who had been persistently pressuring her to enter into a relationship. The incident, which occurred on December 22, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral, triggering public outrage.

According to police, the incident took place around 3.20 pm when the woman was standing near her paying guest accommodation, allegedly waiting beside a scooty used for online rides. The accused, identified as Naveen Kumar, arrived at the spot in a car, snatched the woman’s purse and was seen checking it before approaching her. He then allegedly groped her, assaulted her by hitting her on the head and back, and dragged her along the road.

Despite two to three bystanders being present at the scene, none intervened to stop the assault or help the victim.

The First Information Report stated that the accused and the woman had become acquainted through Instagram earlier this year and were in regular contact through calls and messages. Over time, Naveen allegedly began forcing the woman to enter into a relationship, which she repeatedly refused.

On the day of the incident, Naveen reportedly went to the woman’s PG accommodation, confronted her outside, and assaulted her in full public view.

Police have registered a case in the matter and taken the accused into custody. Further investigation is currently underway.
