Chennai, Mar 21: With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has stepped up efforts to ensure a transparent and closely monitored electoral process across the state.
A wide network of observers has been deployed, including 136 General Observers, 40 Police Observers, and 151 Expenditure Observers, covering all 234 Assembly constituencies. Their contact details have been made available through district authorities, enabling citizens, candidates, and political parties to report violations or lodge complaints directly.

To curb electoral malpractices, enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance against the distribution of cash, liquor, drugs, and freebies. These actions have led to seizures worth ?75.03 crore so far, including cash, narcotics, precious metals, and other inducements.
The ECI’s SUVIDHA portal continues to streamline key election processes, allowing candidates to file nominations online, schedule submissions, and seek permissions for rallies and campaign events. A total of 2,443 applications have been received, with several already processed within the prescribed timelines.
Officials have also urged voters to verify their names in the electoral rolls ahead of the March 26, 2026 deadline. Citizens can check or update their details online or through Form-6 via Electoral Registration Officers. Additional services, including the “Book a Call with BLO” feature and mobile apps, have been introduced to assist voters.
Emphasizing public participation, authorities said timely verification and adherence to guidelines will help ensure a smooth, fair, and efficient election process across Tamil Nadu.
