Two Keralites killed in Oman flash floods; Satheesan seeks PM Modi’s intervention

New Delhi, Mar 22: Flash floods in Oman have claimed the lives of two persons from Kerala, while another woman remains missing, prompting senior Congress leader V D Satheesan to seek urgent intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The deceased have been identified as Yusuf and Shamla, both natives of Trithala in Kerala. The missing woman, Ramla, also hails from the same region. According to reports, the victims were travelling in a vehicle when it was caught in a sudden flash flood in Oman’s Al Batinah Governorate.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Satheesan expressed deep concern over the incident and urged the Centre to coordinate closely with Omani authorities to intensify search and rescue efforts, particularly in view of continuing heavy rains and flood risks.

He also requested that all possible assistance be extended to ensure the safety of those affected and to support the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, flooding in valleys and low-lying areas has disrupted transport routes, with emergency teams carrying out rescue operations as heavy runoff cut off roads in parts of Muscat and along the Al Batinah coast. Authorities have warned motorists against crossing flooded valleys and advised strict adherence to safety guidelines.

Oman continues to witness unstable weather conditions, with thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail forecast in several regions. The National Committee for Emergency Management has activated response mechanisms to tackle the situation, while agencies remain on high alert for further flooding risks.

Residents have been urged to remain cautious and follow official advisories as rescue operations continue.
