Mangalore: All Alone, Young Lavina Battles for Life

Mangalore, Sep 3: Lavina D’Souza, all of just 21 years is yet to begin the journey of her life, a life she is now battling for within the four walls of Wenlock hospital.
While her classmates at Govindas College think of surging ahead in their careers, Lavina is fighting brain tumour which had threatened to snatch away all her dreams.
Lavina, daughter of Fredrick D’Souza and the late Celine D’Souza, hails from Suratkal near here. Her brother Lancel D’Souza (10) studies in the fourth grade at Holy Family Higher Primary School, Suratkal.
Problems are not new to her. Years ago, Fredrick D’Souza abandoned the family, and it was her mother Celine D’Souza who looked after the children. However, the entire responsibility fell on the young shoulders of Lavina when Celine passed away in the year 2010.
Moreover, it was not easy for the two children to make their living as both of them were studying and had no house of their own. A certain T N Raghavendra of Malemar road, Chokkabettu agreed to rent his house to the two children. Thanks to the wholehearted support and financial assistance from locals and the parish council of Suratkal, the two children managed a decent living.
But fate played a cruel game again, when Lavina was diagnosed with brain tumour and doctors suggested that she go for an immediate surgery. The surgery was done on August 14 by neurologist Dr A Divakar Rao. Apart from financial support for her medical treatment, she and her young brother need support to make ends meet as they have nothing of their own and no one to depend on.
Fr Anthony Lobo, parish priest, Sacred Heart Church, Suratkal said that the brother-sister duo genuinely needs every bit of help and prayers. 'The family deserves help and I am happy to see that daijiworld is taking the iniatiative," he said.
