Dubai, Sep 26: The Brahmavar Orthodox Konkani Community,UAE celebrated the Monthi Fest with religious fervor and gaiety on September 21. The celebration was held in the hall of St Thomas Orthodox Cathedral, Dubai.
There was a gathering of about 125 members. BOKC UAE, secretary Selvin Lewis welcomed the gathering.
The programme began with traditional prayer and thereafter the children showered flowers to the portrait of Mother Mary while the gathering sung the traditional hymns.
Senior member Thomas Suares addressed the gathering by recollecting the memories of Monthi Fest down the line and highlighted how faithful Mother Mary was being virgin, unwed who coped with persecutions, trials and sufferings throughout her life with humility and faithfulness and her relevance in our family life and her intercession in ourdaily prayers.
Thereafter the formal selection of new office bearers for the year 2012-13 took place. Rufus Lewis selected as vice president, Stephen D’Souza as secretary and Stephan Lewis and Elvita D’Souza as treasurers.
Other committees were also formed and have also planned to celebrate the annual day celebration in the third week of November.
A delicious traditional meal and vorn with novem prepared by the members was served to all the attendees.
After the meal, Stanly Banz, vice president BOKC UAE, proposed vote of thanks. The programme concluded with prayer. Praveen Lewis compeered the programme.
