Ajman, Nov 8: November 5, marked 14 successful years of the establishment of Gulf Medical University Hospital, Ajman UAE.
To commemorate the 14 year anniversary of its existence, GMU celebrated the event with a cake cutting ceremony.
“The completion of the first decade has provided a useful perspective to look back over the efforts undertaken so far to provide quality medical education to the aspiring students and the results achieved so far”, commented Thumbay Moideen Thumbay, founder president, Board of Governors, Gulf Medical University.
He thanked the provost, deans, faculty and the staff for their continued support and emphasized that they continue to work diligently in taking the organization in a forward and positive manner.
Ever since its inception the Gulf Medical University (formerly Gulf Medical College) and GMC hospital and research centre, Ajman, established in 1998 has been involved in undergraduate education in medicine, physiotherapy, dentistry, and pharmacy and premium healthcare delivery since the last decade.
The institution became the Gulf Medical University in 2008 following a Decree by Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE.
Gulf Medical University, Ajman (GMU) is synonymous with excellence in the field of medical education, healthcare and research. Today, the institution is a name to reckon with in the region and stands out on par with some of the best medical institutions in the world.
It is the first private medical institution in the region to accept students of both genders and from all nationalities. It currently has a global composition of the university community made up of an international faculty drawn from 22 countries and a student cohort from 67 countries.
GMU is also the first institution to have launched a private teaching hospital (GMC Hospital) in the country, enabling the students to pursue their clinical training and thus serving people from over 150 nationalities to get high quality healthcare at affordable costs.
More than 1500 people are employed, mainly in the executive cadre like Professors, Doctors and Technical Staff, and growing at the rate of 25% p.a. and will have around 7000 employees in the next five to seven years.
The Thumbay Group is in the process of building two new hospitals in Ajman and Dubai. As per the strategic expansion plans the group aims to build three more International campuses in the next five years. It also plans to expand the hospital chain to at least fifteen in UAE and other countries in the next five to seven years.
The grand ceremony was largely attended by Provost, respective Deans of the University, faculty, staff and students.
