Mumbai, Mar 7: The year 2012 was of special significance for the Agnesian Alumnae Association in Mumbai. Having been founded in the year 2005-2006, the Association has completed six successful years. The Association has grown in strength and stature with the dedicated and selfless efforts and commitment of its founder members/ members and the office bearers.

To celebrate the occasion an annual get-together was held recently at Bandra in Mumbai.

The Agnesians gathered in big number at the Carmel Convent School Hall at Bandra. The function began with a meaningful liturgical service, which commenced with a beautiful 'Aarati' by a group of classical dancers who performed a diya dance. The mass was celebrated by Fr Ubaldo who in his homily gave a beautiful message – 'It is love that binds and trust that glues the relationships'.

It was an apt homily for the occasion. The Agnesians have forged a bond with each other, to work together and contribute our bit to the Alma Mater. The theme for the occasion was “Mutual Trust and Lasting Relationships”.

Everyone was filled with joy and excitement and the entire atmosphere was radiating with love and warmth as members went around meeting friends and chatting over their breakfast.

It was then time for transacting business and commencement of AGM was announced by Prathibha Rai, former secretary of the Association, who requested the present office-beares on the managing committee, to take their seats on dais.

President: Jane Harindran
Vice president : Thelma Sequeira
Secretary : Sridevi Rai
Joint secretary : Usha Kumar
Treasurer : Irene Fernandes
Joint treasurer : Celine D’Souza

President Jane Harindran in her welcome address said that the Agnesian Alumnae Association in Mumbai is today standing on a strong foundation and is carrying forward its activities for achievement of the objectives set by the parent Agnesian Association. The Association has grown in strength and stature with the dedicated and selfless efforts and commitment of its founder members and the other senior members. The President pledged that she and her team would give their best for serving the Association and let the flag of St Agnes College fly high in Mumbai.

The secretary, Sridevi Rai, read the minutes of the previous AGM. The treasurer Irene Fernandes, gave a brief on financial accounts. The joint treasurer, Celine D’souza, read the report on social Service Activities.

Then came the important event of the morning – felicitation of the founders – Shanti Sequeira, Prescilla Sequeira, Rosita Lobo, and the Senior members, who had completed 2 terms of 3 year each.

Certificates of Appreciation were handed over to each one of them by Mother Superior Sr Thelma of Carmel Convent, Bandra

Thereafter, Jane Harindran, President, informed the august gathering about the centenary celebrations by the St Agnes College and made an earnest appeal to contribute their might generously for the same.

The vice-president, Dr Thelma Sequeira, proposed the vote of thanks. The AGM ended with the singing of the College Anthem.

The whole process of the AGM was speeded up with a well- organized meeting, leaving ample time for fun and entertainment. The DJ took over and enthused all the members to participate in fun-filled games, which also provided good exercise for building up an appetite, for a delicious meal that was to follow. Another exciting item on the programme was fashion show (surprise item). What a great participation – almost a dozen members, including seniors and juniors, volunteered and entertained the the audience to heart’s content. There were exciting prizes to the winners too.

With all the energy consumed and having built a good appetite, it was time to relish a good meal. Yes, the food was great and all enjoyed a sumptuous meal. Finally, it was time to part to meet again next year in the month of February.

I am sure the readers of Daijiworld will be surprised to know that I am legitimately an AGNESIAN having studied at St. Agnes School in junior K.G. class. I have strong links with St. Agnes.... my sister Mary Gonsalves had her school and College education at St. Agnes and belonged to the first batch of graduates way back in the thirties. Two of my sisters Lilly and Julie too had their education at this great institute and later on Julie - (Rev. Sister Hedwige) held the portfolio as Principal of the College. My youngest daughter Michelle Gonsalves was a student of St. Agnes until she completed her P.U.C before she did her M.S.W at Roshni Nilaya,During the tenure of St. Aloysia as the Principal of the college I had the privilege of being elected the V.P. of the Parent Teacher Association.

I cherish the memory of long and happy association with this Institute of repute.
