Mangalore/Kannur, Feb 16: Traffic on the Kannur and Mangalore section of the Southern Railway was disrupted for a few hours following the derailment of an empty oil tanker at Kannur railway station on Wednesday night.

Station Manager of Kannur Railway Station P Rajan told UNI on Thursday that an empty oil tanker jumped the tracks around 2200 Hrs last night, leading to disruption of traffic in the section.

He said the accident occured soon after the tanker left the station. The reason for the derailment of the tanker would be known only after an inquiry, he added.

He said an inquiry had been ordered and officials from Palghat would conduct a detailed inquiry. He said the empty oil tanker train was proceeding to Tokkur from Palghat. He said the West Coast Express between Mangalore and Chennai was delayed in both directons.

However, the traffic was brought to normal at 0300 hours.
