Margao, March 7: An irate mob tried to stone a minority community's prayer structure at Shiroda in North Goa, but did not succeed because of the timely police intervention.

It was the turn of  north Goa, after Sanvordem at south Goa was ruined by violent mobs. After two days' violence, Curchorem and Sanvordem saw calm on Monday morning and the hawkers set their tables in the market.

But in Shiroda, early in the morning, all of a sudden, a mob pelted stones at the minority community's prayer structure, and fled the place when the police took action.

Violence was sparked off at Sanvordem-Curchorem as the minority community had reportedly constructed the prayer structure illegally, the same issue was raised in Shiroda as one of the structure is allegedly an illegal construction.

To prevent any undesirable development in Shiroda, the police administration pressed the Rapid Action Force into service.

Since morning, after the attempt of stone-pelting by the mob, not a single incident of the kind was witnessed. " We have enough force to control any situation at Shiroda," said SDPO Mohan Naik.

As a result of the tense situation in Shiroda village, market was totally shut down. Also the schools closed, allowing the students to go home.
