Al Ain, Apr 28 (7days) : A six-year-old boy has died after he was knocked down by a car in front of his mother and siblings.
The incident took place as the Arab family had gone to a public park in Al Ain city for a picnic on Friday evening.
Police said the boy, identified as Ibrahim, was with his mother and two brothers when a passing car hit him as he crossed the road near to the park. The family had just left a taxi when the boy ran away from his brothers and went into the road alone. Police said he was struck by a speeding car.
“The boy suddenly crossed the road. He was hurrying to go to the park so he could play with other children,” said a source in Al Ain.
An ambulance arrived quickly, but the child died of his injuries within minutes of being taken to a hospital in Al Ain. Doctors said that he had suffered major head injuries and multiple fractures.
A close family friend said that the boy’s mother heard the sound of the impact.
“The mother was shocked to see her son lying on the ground after being hit by a car,” said the friend. “She ran towards him and started shouting his name before police arrived. But the boy was motionless and in a critical condition.”
The driver was detained while police investigate the incident.
