Brazilian president congratulates Modi

Sao Paulo, May 21 (IANS/EFE): Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff congratulated India's next prime minister, Narendra Modi, Wednesday with whom she hopes to discuss the "new levels" of bilateral relations at the BRICS summit in July.

"I congratulate the future prime minister Narendra Modi and wish him success in his government," Rousseff said on her Twitter account.

Modi, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will take oath May 26 in New Delhi after his party's victory in the recent general elections.

The Brazilian president said that relations between both the countries consolidated in the last few years and became "strategic for both India and Brazil”.

The BRICS forum comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Leaders of these countries will meet in the sixth annual BRICS summit in July in the city of Fortaleza in northeast Brazil.
