New Delhi, Sep 4: When the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) refused to file charge sheets against the accused in the Badaun case, a local court, here, today granted them conditioned bail. The two constables who were also accused were granted bail days ago and the fresh hearing means that all the accused are at the minute out of jail roaming free. The CBI have clarified that no one has been completely exonerated, and that they were merely awaiting further evidence before making any arrests or filing charge sheets against anyone.

The CBI have also said that they are now investigating the role of BSP MLA Sinod Kumar Shakya and his role in the murders along with re-examining the testaments recorded thus far. They believe that false statements may have been forced out of the witnesses in this case. The family members of the victims are also being investigated along with the main eye-witness the girls' neighbour who apparently saw them leave their home.

New forensic evidence has revealed that the girls were not raped/sexually assaulted. Out of the five arrested three were brought before the court for the rape and killing of the girls while the two policemen were charged with charged with dereliction of duty and criminal conspiracy for not taking the parents' complaint seriously. The men Pappu, Awadhesh and Urvesh Yadav (all three brothers) and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav had been kept in jail pending trial for 90 days which is the longest allowed for criminals to be held without charge.

The lack of proper toilet facilities had forced the girls to leave their homes to relieve themselves. When they did not return for an extended period of time, they were pronounced missing and people began looking for them. The next morning their bodies were found hanging from a tree. Some reports suggest that if not for rape this could be an honour killing carried out by the accused.
