Mangalore, Dec 20: The internationally acclaimed music band of the Indian Navy presented a musical performance in the town hall on the evening of Tuesday, December 19.

The chief guest of the programme was N M P T chairman P Tamilvanan.  

A large number of music-lovers, officials of the New Mangalore Port, the Coast Guard and others were present on the occasion.

The Naval Band Concert was part of a visit of the naval ships to the city's port. The public were provided with an opportunity to visit the ships and see for themselves the naval might of the nation.

The Naval bands have regaled audiences all over the country and at several places abroad. The musicians of the Navy have performed together with renowned bands at prestigious international events while on goodwill visits abroad like Bicentenary Celebrations of the statue of liberty, the president's fleet review in U S A and also performed in Australia, Tokyo, Malasya Singapore and UK.

Lieutenant G Praveen Kumar compered the programme and said that December 4 every year is celebrated as the Navy Day to commemorate the brilliant victory of Naval forces in 1971 war during which the Karachi harbour was bombarded and destroyed by seamen or the Indian Navy. The event seemed to be watershed episode in the entire world, Lt Kumar added.

He further said said that music had been the motivation power of the soldiers from the ancient times and the naval personnel got get motivated through their band concert.
