Where there is space for making footpaths in Mangalore. If they want to make , either they have to cut down the space meant for vehicle movement or encroach the road adjacent houses courtyards or even they may have to demolish some houses itself. Also the apartment buildings are just near the roads making difficult for apartment residents to take their vehicles to the road from their buildings & vice versa. As of now many apartments are vacant & once they are fully occupied one can see the plight of the people due to traffic jams everywhere in Mangalore while residents entering & coming out from the apartment buildings. Still so many apartment buildings are coming very near to the roads. There should have been slip roads from apartment buildings joining main roads. When slip roads itself have not been thought what about footpaths.

It will be a herculean task to acquire land from the people whose houses are just adjacent to the roads, and will it be possible to demolish buildings built right adjacent to roads with hardly any cushion area??? This is all the mistake of the TMC which should have thought of infrastructure first before giving permission to build these huge concrete structures!! Just imagine, God forbade, a major fire in one such big building, how will the fire brigade approach such places is anybody's guess???

Mr Ibrahim is very smart. He did
say footpaths in 3 months. But He did not say which year. It may be in 2020.
What a joke. Could not finish any foot path in years but He is going to finish in 3 months.

Most of the places roads are directly touching the adjacent concrete structures!! At this stage just imagine how difficult it would be to make place by demolishing part of these buildings, and will it be possible?? All the basic infrastructure should have been done much before the newer building came up!!! Opp. KSRTC Bejai busstand it is a very dangerous situation with hardly any footpath plus a bus stop where even huge outstation buses use as a pick up point, over and above that a one foot road divider without any cutouts for senior citizens and children to cross over, a single mistake of leaning forward by standing on the high divider or tripping and falling there is highest possibility of being hit by an oncoming Yamdoot pvt. bus or some heavy vehicle, some top person should come and inspect this place in the afternoons or in the night when a multitude of buses use it as a pick up point leaving absolutely no place for pedestrians to walk, so much for the much hyped Mangluru city!! Jai Mangluru

Get A1 contractors of refute, preferably from outside of Mangalore. We have all palthu contractors in Mangalore who will make the work last for only one year/one monsoon, so they and those involved can get money on yearly basis. I asked one contractor who was resurfacing the road why cannot add more bitumen to the gravel, when there plenty of bitumen drums around. Imagine what his answer was: Bhai this is enough to last one monsoon, we need work next year too you see!!!! The resurfaced roads don't last even one year. Pathetic condition of Managlore. A smart city you call it!!!!!!!

    Ibrahim Sir

When the construction work, footpath work granted to contractors, will there be any guarantee period that they will be okay for next 20 years?
There are many states who have similar or more rain than us, have strong roads they last much longer than our state roads.
Why we need to spend money on roads and footpaths every year?
Please look into it, and give this work to a contracting co who will be responsible for damages of life, time and money on substandard roads.
Saudi Govt cancelled the contract of such a big Contracting co after the crane accident and made them to pay for all damages to life and property
Wish you all the success in your tenure

Here is a PEOPLES' man. Mr. Ibrahim is not new to Mangalore. He was the commissioner of Mangalore Corporation in the nineties and indeed he has a sound knowledge of conditions prevailing in Mangalore. Foot paths seem to be the need of the day. A large number of people walk and their lives need to be protected. From what I know Mr. Ibrahim is that he does not make false promises and HEM MEANS WHAT HE SAYS AND SAYS WHAT HE MEANS. I hope his tenure in Mangalore will be long one to enable him to see to the betterment of people in general and the poor people in particular.

If time permits please spare your most valuable time to visit Simon Lane at least once. Out of many a few officials who has shown their concerns even could do nothing so far. At least, I feel you may be serious about some improvement of Simon Lane.

    forget foot path.

there is no path at many places.

a few of the places accidents are waiting to happen.

yesterday night i was riding in sccoty, when there was no power supply , street lights were off... from bendoorwell to kadri....

suddenly there was abrupt block.unexpected, unseen, poor visualisation, acute turn... exactly in front of mallikatta neuro centere.

if i am wrong please drive there... mallikatta....

first acquire the require width of land at all places...give proper compensation for land owners, give alternate place for their busyness... let rich give a few square inches of their luxury villa compound encroaching the main roads ( opposite hotel swagath of balmatta!!!!) for common people to walk...

    god will recognise you.
and stop all roadside parkings. allow parking only at designated places....

then the threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee moth plan of foot paths...

    threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee months

For the safety of the pedestrians, especially the elderly, it is high time that the authorities give priority to construction of proper footpaths all over the city. One must admit that over the past few years, many areas have been provided with footpaths but in several places, these too require urgent repair .
Going through the reader’s comments, one finds that a number of people have written about the bad condition of our roads. Interestingly, the residents of Valencia are surprised to note while the bituminized Silva Road is in a similar state with several potholes, a lane having no identification, approximately 50 meters in length, has been recently concretized. The residents, whomever you talk to, cannot find the justification for implementing this unimportant project while many of our main streets are in a deplorable state.
It is OK if the works were privately funded but if the resources were from the tax payer’s money, then it would be only fair that the authorities give a valid reason to the public.

First, people should join together and protest against the people who let dirty water to the rain water canal. This is how mosquito breed and they spread Malaria and dengue deadly diseases. People are dying and poor people has to spend huge amount for treatment. MCC should provide drainage system and those people who are letting dirty water should be punished by fining them or people should join together and throw cow dung in their courtyard. Many places, people are walking on the road without any footpaths after 60 yrs of independence.

I really like your comment. Now the time has come to join all of us, specially our young honest & qualified people & to throw out all the corrupt politicians who r enjoying with tax payers money, with luxury cars, attending parties in the resorts, travelling with Chartered flights spending crores of rupees. If our forefathers have succeeded to throw out the mighty British why cant we now join together to remove all the Dynastic, criminal & corrupt politicians of our country. For the last 68 years these politicians survived giving us tall promises without fulfilling many of them.

Dear Sir, This is exactly what I have been saying since 30 years. People have to join together and throw these politician out then only things can change. In India you cannot even get a blue print work and tender order done in 3 months how could you even finish 1 drainage work done ? forget about 10 foot-paths= 10 years minimum.

All your comments and legitimate and many of Mangaloreans will support your cause. But don't forget that these MLA's & MP's have the power to throw out the honest and diligent public officer who comes into power. Look at the classique example of Bharth Lala Mina one of the DC's of our time. He was transferred overnight to another location, because he was simply not listening to MP's and MLA's. Did Mangaloreans had any power to stop this transfer. We are fooled by these Minister over and again and we blidly follow them. These are the people who are the main cause of social unrest in the city. Get a few police officers of high calibre then you see how Mangalore will retain it's old charm. Goodaism, communal unrest, theft, molestation all will stop. Do we have the power to do these changes? Your thoughts are well highlighted but getting every responsible Mangalorean to get into act will be a non-achievable task. We should support to get corrupt free Public Servant officers if you want Mangalore to be corrupt free.

What about the roads? There are so many roads which are in bad state for eg. Marnamikatte to Jeppu Market road via St. Rita's high school. There are so many potholes which can lead to death of many users of this road. Footpaths should be designed in such way that cars and two wheelers should not get a chance to park their respective vehicles on the footpaths. This happens at the Light house hill road vehicles parked on footpaths.

DC Sir, the development should happen in and around Mangalore. Should not be restricted to one sect or one area of the city. Overall development should be the master plan. Not that footpath and drainage is constructed in Bunder and in Kankanady no development. Draft a master plan, and see overall development. Jai Mangalore.
