Smart City vision statement for Mangaluru: MCC invites entries, winner to get Rs 1 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Sep 23: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday September 23 sought public participation in the conceptualization of Mangaluru Smart City proposal and invited 'vision statement' from citizens.

In order to encourage maximum participation, the MCC announced a 'vision statement' competition where citizens can submit their entries on how they would like to see Mangaluru 20-30 years from now.

The vision statement has to be of maximum 50 words. The MCC in a press note stated, "The initial stage of conceptualizing the Smart City proposal by Mangaluru City Corporation is citizen engagement...The vision should have economic, spatial, social, environmental dimensions that reflect the city's unique physical and cultural traits. It should provide directions for the activities of the municipality, citizens and stakeholders.

"The city vision should capture what your city can be in future, in 20 to 30 years. The vision should inspire your city's residence and can even become the branding for your Smart City. The vision statement should summarise the impact of key aspects - main economic activity, sustainability and inclusiveness," the press note added.

The selected vision statement will be awarded cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a certificate. If no vision statement gets selected, the top three statements will win a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.

Citizens can send their entries with contact details to https://secure.mygov.in/group-issue/smart-city-vision-mangaluru-through-peoples-participation/ or it can be emailed to smartcitymangaluru@gmail.com.

Entries can also be submitted on the Twitter page @smartmangaluru or posted on Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Smartcitymangaluru/.

Participants can also drop in their entries at boxes placed at Mangaluru City Corporation, Lalbagh, City Centre Mall, Forum Fiza Mall, Bharath Mall, or Mangaluru City Corporation sub-offices at Suratkal and Kadri.

The last date to submit entries is October 5, 2015.

Based on the vision statement, a logo with a tagline will be created to symbolize the true spirit of Mangaluru. A massive publicity campaign too will be undertaken shortly to gain public involvement in preparing the proposal, said the MCC.

The proposal for Mangaluru's inclusion in the first list of 20 Smart Cities to be developed in phase 1 has to be submitted to the central government by mid-December. The Smart City proposal will deal with various aspects like existing city profiles, citizen engagement, vision statement and goals, strategic plan, pan city proposals, area based proposals, implementation frame work, financing plan, benefits and impacts, and process and team work.

If Mangaluru makes it to the top 20 list, then a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in the form of a public limited company will be formed, headed by a full time CEO for the implementation of the Smart City proposal, with Mangaluru City Corporation and the state government as shareholders of the SPV.

Since there is too much heat in mangaluru, its good to think scientific and use solar for current supply and other activities.
Industries, finance centers, health and wellness are the most critical areas of economic development. Power supply, solid waste management, good governance are the most critical infrastructures that need to be address. cost of activity, education facilities, economic activities, infrastructures are the things I like most about in Mangaluru. We even need good medical facilities. Good methods should be undertaken to control or prevent disasters.

1Try to educate younger generation by compulsory giving education of at least one hour in a week from class one to college level at least in Mangalore district with regards to positive suggestions such as how to lead life in the society at the present atmosphere in all fields.
2 Let residence of wards must come out with their own interest and by conducting meeting area wise and let them first take decision and oath that at least they will keep their area ward clean and at the same time MCC has to co operate with the society by providing Good transport by banning Pvt Transport of rude behaviour. good roads along with footpaths drainage, drinking water and continuous power supply which are basic amenities. Bring strict rule with regard to road rules , unauthorized parking reckless driving irrespective of their standards/positions in the
    society.
In one word to say unless we ourselves change our mentality it is nothing but pouring water on the
rock. Before starting any step first and foremost step is educate younger generation in schools/college levels and guide/change mentality of the present society (which is well known to each and every one ) wait for at least six months then only start investing for smart city .

What could be the definition of a 'smart city' with such a measly budget grant! It would be just about sufficient to fix some internet connections, WiFi in some places, and installation of CCTV cameras in sensitive areas!!! Smart city would require the collusion of big industrial houses to finance on BOOT system!! Unless there is scope for big bossiness which can appear attractive to the financiers who is going to come?

It is a good thing to involve people in building smart city and brining awareness by educating the people. First thing we should have good people in planning and good corporators who have knowledge about waste management and road planning. People should take strict actions on people who are letting dirty water in rain water canals. Municipality should provide drainage system and should disclose the names of the people who are letting the dirty water so that people can take action by bringing them to books. This is how we can stop spreading deadly diseases like Malaria and dengue . Smart city should have good health system.
