CM to convene all-party meeting on Mahadayi soon

Bengaluru, Sep 29 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said he will soon convene an all-party meeting to discuss the state’s next step of action on Mahadayi water dispute and implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri project.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah reiterated that he was ready to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again and seek his intervention to resolve the dispute. However, an all-party meeting will be convened shortly before taking a final decision, he said.

The project seeks to improve drinking water supply to the districts of Belagavi, Dharwad and Gadag. It involves building barrages across Kalasa and Banduri, two tributaries of the Mahadayi river to divert 7.56 tmc to the Malaprabha river. However, Goa and Maharashtra have raised objections, thus hampering the project.

Meanwhile, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has threatened to stage a dharna in front of the residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding implementation of Mahadayi project.

Addressing the farmers who have been staging a dharna for the past 75 days at Nargund in Gadag district, Yeddyurappa said that to begin with, Siddaramiah should convince AICC president Sonia Gandhi and leaders of Opposition in Goa and Maharashtra.

“We will take up the task convincing the chief ministers of both the states and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There is no need to take another delegation to the prime minister,” he said.

BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said that Congress was responsible for the formation of Mahadayi tribunal and Siddaramaiah should take up the task of convincing the Opposition leaders of Goa.
