Mangaluru, Nov 16: A vehicle in which five textile merchants from the city were travelling was intercepted and robbed of their possessions on Sunday November 15. The incident occurred near the railway cross at Bajal. Allegedly, cash amounting to Rs 1,30,100 as well as items worth Rs 1,44,000 were forcibly taken away from the occupants of the vehicle.

Relating to the incident, the policemen have taken into custody three of the accused. They are now trying to find out the whereabouts of the other two.

Bhurra Ram from Rajasthan and his friends were travelling from the city towards B C Road at around 3.10 am on Sunday, when four unidentified people intercepted their vehicle near Bajal railway cross. Allegedly, the strangers flashed their pistols and knife at the passengers in the car, and forcibly took away cash, cell phones, bag, and other valuables kept in the boot of the vehicle.

Bhanwar Maharaj was driving the Scorpio vehicle in which these merchants were seated. The police suspect that the driver was hand in glove with the robbers.

Bhurra Ram and others are involved with selling of clothes in the city and B C Road. They also operate a shop dealing in textiles at Bunder here and B C Road. It is said that after reaching Padil, the vehicle was driven towards Kankanady railway station instead of B C Road. The rural police, who have registered a case, have been investigating.
