Mangaluru, Jan 11: City's Unity Hospital on Monday January 11 got a new facility with the inauguration of 16 slice CT scan by senior consultant cardiologist Dr A V Shetty and senior consultant neuro surgeon Dr K V Devadiga.
Addressing the gathering, Dr A V Shetty said, "Technology is changing so swiftly, if you do not move fast someone else will move faster. In medical science it has become particularly true because the diagnostic apparatus that are available today have increased the accuracy of diagnosis by a large extent. Unity Health Complex has been in the forefront for the past 25 years, be it in cardiology, neurology or any field, and for that, all credit goes to Dr Habeeb Rehman. I am sure Unity Health Complex will remain the most modern hospital in the city as it has always been in the past."
Dr K V Devadiga said, "Today we find that Unity has become a brand. Initially, if I remember, three or four doctors had made the Velllore hospital's name famous. But today it is not the name that matters, it is the institution. An institution should have the policy of appointing the right persons for the right job, this is crucial, and rest of the things will be taken care of. Today, not only patients but even doctors prefer Unity hospital. That is the quality of service provided here. This is a hospital where importance is given not only to excellence in quality but also to the people who are working here. The mother and child care center which is coming up shortly will be another feather in the cap of Unity Health Complex."
Dr C P Habeeb Rahman, chairman and medical director of Unity Hospital said, "This is the third CT scan we are changing, first was in 1995, then in 2005 and now in 2016. Hence, we are keeping in pace with changing modern technology. About 60 to 65 percent of the expenditure goes on medical equipment. We have to reinvest or reinvent a new hospital every 5 years and it is a great challenge. It is a privilege for me to say we have been able sustain in spite of all these challenges. We have remained as a brand in Mangaluru because of the doctors, nurses and other staff who have been rendering their service wholeheartedly.
"Earlier when there were no cathlabs and no cardiac surgeries, Dr A V Shetty, Dr Devadiga and Dr K R Shetty started the Mangalore Medical Relief Society and conducted open heart surgery in Wenlock hospital. Dr A V Shetty and Dr Devadiga are also responsible for the IMA building. Their contribution to the patients and doctors is noteworthy. These are the people who have set values in the medical profession in Mangaluru that make doctors more patient centric and humane. I thank both of them for being part of the inaugural ceremony," he added.
Ajmal Habeeb and Ashfaq Habeeb of Unity Health Complex and others were present.
