Sullia, Sep 13: Kukke Subrahmanya Temple President T Venkatramana Bhat addressing a news conference on Wednesday September 12, said that strict legal action will be sought against any individual found guilty deceiving the pilgrims in the name of the temple.
Addressing the reporters on the context of a report that said shed light on the fake pujas happening around temple premises deceiving the pilgrims and about various centres running in places like Bangalore and Mumbai in the name of the temple, Bhat said that temple will not be responsible if people are cheated.
Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, from ancient times has been the religious destination for those wanting to solve the ‘Nagadosha’, in their horoscopes. The sanctity of the temple and the firm belief of the devotees on the power of this divine destination have attracted comman man to celebrities.
It is a belief that God will be pleased and will bless the devotees if the puja rituals are perform ritualistically for the Nagadosha. The temple’s popularity started soaring high and with the popularity, grew the list of devotees wanting to perform ‘Sarpa samskara’ (for Nagadosha). In this scenario began a tale of ‘Commercialised pujas, strangling and throwing away the rituals.
There used to be a rule of booking the names of the devotees wishing to perform this puja. As their turn came, they would be intimated and in their presence the puja was held. But in recent times with the growing number of pilgrims, some priests, astrologers, middlemen and local residents have been taking the devotees for a ride by performing fake pujas on the bank of river Kumaradhara, at residences, halls and other convenient places.
Bhat said that the temple committee has noticed the issue of fake priests misguiding the pilgrims to extract money from them.
He also clarified that there are no authorized branches of the temple in any place neither in the country nor outside the country set up to collect funds for the religious, educational and cultural programmes held by the temple.
Hence, the temple urged the devotees not to fall prey to such unauthorised centres. He said that devotees can directly send donations and amount payable for the pujas to temple itself.
