Mangalore, Sep 22: District Congress president Bellippady Ramanath Rai announced at a press meet on Friday the names of the rebel candidates who had filed their nominations for MCC elections in variance to the official list of candidates decided upon by the party.

He also made it clear that the expelled persons in no circumstances would be re-admitted into the party.

Padmanabha Amin (Ward 16 - Bangrakulur), Vishwanath ( Ward 50 - Alape), Sundar Shetty (Ward 3- Katipalla), Albert (Ward 3 - Katipalla), Somappa Kulai (Ward 9 - Kulai), Mohammed Nawaz (Ward 56 - Mangaladevi), Namita D Rao (Ward 56 - Mangaladevi), Santosh (Ward 11 - Panambur), Hakim (Ward 45 - Port), N J Nagesh, Nagesh Balmatta (Ward 40 - Court ), Harish (Ward 6 - Iddya), Murali (Ward 24 - Derebail), Raghavendra (Ward 12 - Panjimogaru), Renuka (Ward 27 - Boloor) and Tulasi (Ward 33 - Kadri).

According to analysts, some of them are quite inflential in their respective wards. For example, Vishwanath from Bajal has been a vociferous member, fighting over problems and protesting injustice, often clashing with party colleagues.

Namita Rao has in the past served as a deputy mayor. What might worry the Congress leaders is that there are more than one rebel candidates of their party in some wards. This is likely to eat into their traditional vote-bank.
