Mangaluru/Bengaluru, Mar 24: Until recently, Jackson Ronald Rego, all of just 22 years, was like most other youngsters his age - active, happy, with dreams of having a decent career, and more than that, a caring heart that beat for the less fortunate. Sadly, when his journey of life is yet to begin, he is battling for it within the four walls of Abhaya hospital, Bengaluru.
Jackson Ronald Rego is the son of Maria Roopa Rego (nee Tauro) and the late John Rego, hailing from Bajpe. He has been actively involved in charity service at Snehalaya (orphanage and destitute home) for the past one year. He had devoted his time and effort in the service of the needy at Snehalaya. But fate struck a massive blow when Jackson met with an accident on March 17. He was returning to Mangaluru from a pilgrimage to Velankani by jeep. On reaching Bengaluru at around 4 am, the jeep collided with a truck. It is said the driver of the jeep who fell asleep caused the accident.
As Jackson was in the front seat, he was seriously injured and fell unconscious. He was later admitted to Abhaya hospital, Bengaluru in a critical condition and underwent an emergency surgery on his head. A part of his skull has been removed and kept in freezer for the next procedure of operations and further treatment. The impact of the accident was so severe that his left side has been completely paralyzed.
The accident has completely changed Jackson's life. A young and energetic youth who had immersed himself in works of charity today faces an uncertain future. While Jackson is fighting for life, his devastated family is trying hard to gather the required amount of money for his treatment. Doctors at Abhaya hospital have estimated the cost of the surgery to be approximately Rs 8 lac. The family is very poor, with Jackson's father having passed away and his mother being a housewife with no income. Jackson is the only son and support for the family. Arranging such a huge amount is next to impossible for them.
Joseph Crasta, managing trustee of Snehalaya said, "Jackson genuinely needs every bit of help and prayers. He has actively rendered his service to Snehalaya for the past one year. This fatal accident has left everyone shattered. Moreover, we at Snehalaya depend on our donors for the day to day expenses and there is very little that we can do for him. I request the donors to help him with their generous contributions."
The family is desperately in need of financial assistance and prayers. Let us join hands in helping Jackson get a new lease of life and his mother the much-needed support. A giving heart like Jackson's deserves to keep beating.
